From 2 November 2026, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) becomes mandatory for all Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) in England. Under Schedule 15 of the Environment Act 2021, applicants submitting Development Consent Order (DCO) applications must achieve at least a 10 percent net gain in biodiversity for their site.
NSIPs benefit from tailored rules, such as the streamlined BNG boundary approach and the ability to source off-site gains directly without a strict spatial hierarchy, but securing large-scale, compliant off-site units remains a major operational hurdle.
At BNG Partnership (BNGP), we provide the scale, land management experience, and technical expertise required to ensure your BNG commitments are fulfilled smoothly and risk-free.

Navigating a DCO application requires managing complex regulatory requirements, and strict statutory deadlines. Our team brings decades of planning and ecological experience to your project.
We understand how to integrate off-site BNG into your outline biodiversity gain plan early in the pre-application phase. By aligning our processes with statutory metrics and DCO examination standards, we remove BNG friction points long before they can threaten your project timeline.
Securing BNG for infrastructure developments requires land availability, security, and deep ecological roots.
BNG Partnership is built on generations of large-scale land stewardship. We already operate 5 registered statutory habitat banks across the country, with many more currently in development to meet expanding demand. You can explore our growing network on our Habitat Banks Page.
Off-the-shelf BNG units do not always fit the specific geographic or ecological profile of a large-scale project. BNG Partnership specialises in demand-driven, bespoke habitat banks designed around exact developer requirements.
We can create custom, tailored habitat banks to match your scheme’s scale and type requirements.
Securing off-site BNG is not just about buying units; it is a 30-year commitment. BNG Partnership takes full responsibility for the entire lifecycle, removing ongoing risk from the developer.

For NSIP developers, reliable off-site delivery is essential to guard against enforcement actions or reputational damage over the 30-year term.
Our habitat banks are designed to exceed basic legislative requirements:
Partnering with BNGP ensures your project satisfies statutory requirements while delivering real, lasting environmental gain. Explore our available locations on our Habitat Banks Page or contact our team to discuss bespoke solutions.
